"The first mistake of art is to assume that it's serious." - Lester Bangs
Hong Kong has had a tough year. Society, and culture in the city seems to be decaying around us. Not only can art be therapeutic in such times, however it also enables us to engage in conversation with one another. This is vital for us to be able to navigate our way through turbulent times.
Since close to all art shows this year have been cancelled due to the Virus, It is necessary for us to manifest an exhibition for one evening that celebrates emerging Artists in Hong Kong.
There have always been misconceptions about art. For example, it is pretentious, only for “high society”, and has to be taken incredibly seriously. We believe it is important to shatter these myths, and show that art has a unique ability to transcend boundaries whether it be age, socio-economic class, or even ideological beliefs. This is why admission into the exhibition is free. We also want to showcase that art can have humorous elements to it, hence the name F.art Basil.
